Fancy Fireworks

Last 4th of July I really wanted to try to take some pictures of fireworks.  I played around with the features on my digital SLR camera to get some good fireworks shots.  When it came to scrapbooking the celebration, I of course wanted to include the photos along with the pictures of my family.  But I didn't want the fireworks photos to be the main focus of the page.  So I searched 4th of July layouts and found this one at Scrapbooks Etc.

I loved how the photos of fireworks were used as a border across the page.  Since I am a double page scrapper I stretched this design across two pages by flipping it on the second page.

To highlight the photo of our family I matted it with white, while leaving the other photos un-matted.  I used a glitter cardstock as my background.  The paper was sold as Christmas paper, but it fit this purpose very well.  I also had some blue firework paper with red, white, and blue explosions on it.  I liked the paper, but it was just too busy for me.  So I used it to mat my blue border behind the fireworks pictures.  You can see it peeking out, which gives the page a nice subtle touch.  I balanced the page by using two blocks of journaling.  I reflected on each child's perspective of the fireworks show.

The title is thanks to a friend at a recent scrapbooking retreat.  She is excellent at listening to my story about the page and instantly coming up with an awesome title.  This one refers to my youngest son's excitement about the fireworks until they actually started.  Then he spent the entire time crying and begging us to cover his ears.  Thanks Sarah for your title talents!
