Ella TV Challenge Week 2 - Mickey Magic

The challenge: create a layout inspired by a television show that was a favorite as a child or a favorite of your child.  I chose to scrap a show that is my son's favorite...MICKEY MOUSE.  While it is a page about my son, I too enjoyed Mickey as a child.  He is just a timeless character.

I got my inspiration from this layout I found online.  I loved the colors and the circles.  Since Mickey is made from circles I thought it would be fun to adapt the layout to use Mickey ears rather than just circles.

On the left side rather than doing a punched edge I again added Mickey ears.  I made a border with SCAL and cut it on my Cricut.  The many sizes of Mickey ears were also cut with my Cricut.

For the title I used a Minnie font I found at dafont.com.  I put a rectangle around each letter and then backed them with white.  I wanted the letters to look scattered like the photos did.

I love the layers of Mickey across the page.  I don't remember the last time I used brads, but it was fun to add a few for variety.  You can't really tell in the picture but I also popped up a few of the Mickey's with foam dots.  I then took a navy marker and put a few dot circles on the page for a little something extra.

I wanted to print the journaling on another cutout of Mickey's ears.  So I put the image in Word and tried to give it the same dimensions as the cutout I had.  I then put a text box on top and sent the photo of Mickey's ears behind the text.  I typed in the text box and spaced the words to fit inside the outline of Mickey's ears.  Then once I had the text where I wanted it I deleted the picture of Mickey's ears leaving just the text box.

I printed the text on a plain sheet of white paper.  I then taped the cutout on top of the text.  You can see that a couple of the letters ended up a tad outside the cutout.  So I went back into Word and spaced those lines a couple of spaces before printing again.  I then ran the sheet of paper, with the cutout taped on, through the printer again.

The text is not perfect, but I like that it is printed on the ears.

And here it is on the page.  I love how it came out!

I have had these ribbons for a long time and never had the right page for them.  This page really needed a variety of patterns along the bottom of the page.  The ribbons provided that perfectly.

Choosing a show my children like as my inspiration was easy for me.  At this point in his life, my son eats, drinks and breathes Mickey.  While it's not exactly a subtle take on Mickey Mouse I like that it doesn't just have a ton of Mickey stickers either.  It was a lot of fun to do, and much more busy than my normal style.  I really enjoyed the challenge!
