Over at the Ella blog they have started another set of challenges. This week the challenge was to make a layout inspired by a favorite television show. Lately I spend much of my time watching HGTV and "Designed to Sell" is a favorite. Since we recently sold our house that seemed like the perfect inspiration for this layout.
I actually sketched this layout a couple of weeks ago after finding a challenge at write.click.scrapbook through one of my favorite bloggers Katie Scott at Kiss and Tell Scrapbooking who, by the way, is the host of the TV challenge at the Ella blog as well.
I knew I wanted to use the flags I had seen on both Katie's layout and the ones at write.click.scrapbook. I wasn't able to participate in their challenge at the time due to other things going on for me. But I sketched my thoughts and added this layout to my 'to do' list. Then when Katie's challenge on the Ella blog came along I pulled this sketch back out and shifted my focus to the TV inspiration.
I dug through my scraps and found patterned paper that matched some of the room colors on my other page. I specifically wanted patterns that were tone on tone so that the flags wouldn't be too distracting from the photos but would still brighten up the page. I chose this brown cardstock for my background because it reminded me of a cardboard box.
Then it was time to make the "Designed to Sell" logo. I went into SCAL and started looking for a font that would match the logo. I decided on Arial which is standard on most computers. I then added a box around the words. I figured it would be easier to pop the letters out and back the rectangle with the appropriate color for the lettering rather than glueing each individual letter down. It worked really well.
For the right side of the page I wanted to use the photos we had put online while our house was on the market. I used 3x3 pics so that I could fit as many as possible. I am so glad I found a way to scrap all these photos. It's a nice way to remember our first house, and the house my children both came home from the hospital to. Now we have a nice keepsake, and with a really fun theme!
Participating in challenges is so inspiring! It makes me look at my art in a whole new way. Check out some of the other entries in this challenge at scrapbooks.com! Just search the gallery for Ella TV Challenge. Better yet, make an entry yourself!
