July 20th

I GOT MY NEW LENS TODAY!  YAY!  Ever since I started this class at Big Picture Scrapbooking, I've been wanting a 50mm macro lens.  For our anniversary my husband said I could get one (back in early July).  But then the struggle came.  Nikon doesn't have a 50mm macro, but they have a 50mm 1.8 which is really inexpensive.  I was pumped!  Until I found out that it won't auto-focus on my D40.  :(  So the search began.  I searched the internet and posted questions on several forums.  I could do the 50mm 1.4, but it was much more expensive.  Then someone suggested a 35mm 1.8.  I checked it out, and the price was do-abe.  So I decided to try it out.  I already LOVE IT!

Today's prompt was to look for repetition in our daily lives.  Order within the chaos.  As a VERY linear person, I loved this prompt.  I saw things all over the place that I wanted to photograph.  Unfortunately it was usually while I was driving and not able to stop and snap a pic. :)

My favorite shot of the day.  I laid out my coasters in a line and took the pic.  I loved how the orange popped out on the leather, and the light from the window cast a blue tone.  So cool!

Finding calm through repetition made me think of reading.  I often re-read the same books over and over.  I love relaxing into a well loved story.  And the lines on the page offered a sense of order and repetition as well.

I drive over this bridge every day and am always struck by the beauty of the columns.  I thought today's prompt was the perfect time to take this shot.  Still doesn't capture my sense of the bridge as I drive over it.  I'll have to keep working on that one.

I saw several people using chair shots so I decided to try my own.  I love the colors of these 4 chairs that go with my boys' little table.

I had some fun playing with my new lens today and even took the chance on a few self portrait shots.  This was my fav.  Thanks for looking!
