Snow Day

In honor of the fact that today may be the only day this week that my kids have school (forecasting blizzard conditions with 15-20 in of snow...yikes) I thought I'd blog about a snow day layout I made recently.

This very simple layout uses five 4x6 photos and one 5x7.  I literally put this together, from finding the design to printing the pics to assembling the page, in about 30 min!

I got the layout idea from a sketch in my Ella eBook Double Page Design.  Have you figured out yet that I love this book?  You have got to get your own!  Seriously it's only $5.99!  They have the page I got my sketch from on Ella as a sneak peak so I figured I could share the image with you.  Most of the book has full color layouts that are simply amazing.  Check it out!!

I always have fun snapping pics of my boys playing in the snow and this snow day was no exception.  I am usually crazy enough (shhh don't tell) that I actually try to coordinate my boys coats and snow things when I buy them so that they will match in the pictures.  I know, I know...moving on.  This year I wasn't able to do that, but I still think the pics came out super cute.

My two other snow layouts both used such dark colors that I wanted to change it up a bit this time.  So I went with this light blue patterned paper with little brown rhombuses (That is the official term!  They are not called diamonds.  I taught elementary school for years remember?)  tee hee

For a super simple title I used chipboard letter stickers and punched some brown brackets.

The original sketch had a large journaling block that was 4x12.  I didn't have that much to say about a snow day so I used this cute snow print paper.  I thought all the words, phrases, and quotes were so pretty!

To emphasize the snow theme I added these blingy snowflakes.  Makes it look like the snow is falling on the page!

It never hurts to accent the corners of a photo with embellishments.  I think these snowflakes really add a perfect finishing touch to the layout.  The beautiful smiles on my boys don't hurt either!  :)

Happy Snow Day!
