Educated Women

As I was reflecting on my family history it struck me that not just myself and my mother but both of my grandmothers had degrees.  Not something that is all that common.  I decided I wanted to document that piece of my history.

It was so much fun to get to use purple.  With two boys that doesn't happen very often.  But a layout about 4 women was the perfect opportunity!  I used 4 coordinating patterns in strips of 4x11.  I then placed alternating strips under each picture.

The left page features my two grandmothers.  When I told the stories of their education and then finished each journaling strip reflecting on what they taught me.

I cut bracket tags for each person and printed their names (including maiden) and their degree.

I have a new bracket border punch that I used on the bottom of each journaling strip.  I love this thing!

The right page is dedicated to my mother and me.  Isn't she cute in her nursing outfit?  I have to admit I cried a few tears writing my mother's journal strip.  There is so much she has taught me.  How can one actually put that into words?

I found a cute piece of paper with glitter flowers.  I cut out a few and placed them around the layout.  I also popped them up with dots to give dimension.

Since for each of the other women on the layout I wrote about what they taught me for my own journal strip I wrote about the legacy I hope to leave.

So much emotion for me in this layout.  I love that I come from a line of strong educated women!

  1. What a wonderful idea, Monica. As a mother and grandmother, I know just how much this means to you and to the women in your life you have honored!

  2. Thanks so much Barb! You started me on a path I never would have chosen for myself and it changed me in ways I wouldn't trade for all the world! Thanks for looking past the scared doe eyed girl and seeing the teacher I would become!
