Why? What? Where?

Our assignment last week for Finding Photo Freedom was to take some time to look through our scrapbooks and reflect.  How often do you actually do that?  LOOK at the scrapbooks you've created over the years?  The task was to find 10 layouts you absolutely LOVE and ask yourself...

Why did I create this page?
What did I learn in the process?
Where will it go in my Library of Memories?

It took me awhile to narrow it down to just 10.  But here they are, in no particular order...

Why?  I was amazed that my 3 yr old had begun to spell.  One day as he was playing with my iPod I realized that an app was what taught him the skill.  I had to document the way technology has changed the learning process.
What?  How easy it is to scan and include ephemera on a page.
Where?  Things We Do

Why?  I wanted to do a year in review page and thought it would be fun to take it from the perspective of facebook.
What?  That it is A LOT of work to consolidate a year's worth of status updates.  :)
Where?  All About Us

Why?  We go to Reunion every year and I was bored with making the same layouts.  I thought it would be fun to document the things we love about Reunion.
What?  How to split documentation over two pages.
Where?  Places We Go

Why?  I wanted to remember that even though my boy is growing up he still loves his Mama snuggles.
What?  It's ok to have a story first and find pictures to go with it.  Or in this case, run outside and take them.
Where?  All About Us

Why?  It was just hilarious to me that after waiting 2 yrs to finally try gum my youngest immediately decided he didn't like it.  He had said, "no gum for Keaton" for 2 yrs and now he meant it in a totally different way.
What?  How to use gum wrappers to make a flower.
Where?  All About Us

Why?  When I saw the picture on the left page I knew I had to document all about the love between my son and his froggy.  I also took the opportunity to tell the story of where he got froggy.
What?  That a page can be really meaningful even if I don't love the design anymore.
Where?  All About Us

Why?  I can't believe the resemblance between my son and my husband.  I just had to do a side by side comparison.  They really are carbon copies, and not just in looks!
What?  How fun it is to print up digi paper and make my own background!
Where?  All About Us

Why?  One summer I took my oldest to the weekly summer movie series.  We never made it past 20 min of a movie.
What?  Make sure you have the letters you need.  This page went over a year without the e on Movie, until I found more of the stickers I needed.
Where?  Things We Do

Why?  I was amazed that both of my grandmothers were educated women in a time where that wasn't common.
What?  I learned that my dad's mom was actually the first woman to graduate from Ohio state with a degree in agriculture.  And it was because she wanted to marry a farmer.  True story!
Where?  All About Me mini album

Why?  On a daily basis my son tells me he wants to hold my hand, and I then sing him the song.  Don't want to forget that memory.
What?  How fun it is to use digital templates to complete a quick page!
Where?  All About Us

What I learned from this challenge?  That all of my favorite pages started with a story.  Did you notice that not one of them was of a holiday, or birthday, or vacation, or pumpkin patch?  They were about some small detail from our life or a story from my history.  I've known for awhile that I was getting really tired of scrapping event pages but I didn't know exactly how to get away from it.  Finding Photo Freedom has helped me do just that.

There are stories I want to tell about who we are and what we do! Why shouldn't my scrapbooks be the place I tell them?

What is your current favorite page and why did you make it?  What story is on your mind right now?  Go scrap it!  And then tell me about it!

  4. Thanks Karen! I understand the "behind" thing. I have focused on some parts and not enough of others (like purging and rating-only 2 years done). I'm glad this post got you excited about spending time with your pages. I hope you share with us what you learned!
