Framing Makes All the Difference

We all know how nice a photo looks when it's framed and hanging on your wall.  But do you ever think about how you are framing your photo before you press the shutter?

The other morning, after putting my oldest on the bus, I headed up into the field near my house.  I wanted some shots of these lovely flowers.  Apparently it was breakfast time for the bugs.  I got a few great buggy shots (even a shot of an early morning buggy rendezvous!) but had a hard time of finding a bug free flower.

Finally I saw one with great color, decently symmetrical and bug free.  I snapped a shot.  I was looking down on the flower so the background is full of green and stems.  And the focus flower doesn't really stand out.

By getting lower I was able to bring in some of the blue sky and eliminate the extra stems.  This angle also made the main flower the focus while blurring out the lovely yellow flowers behind.

When taking a photo check your main subject and focus but then take a quick scan around the edges of your viewfinder.  Try changing angles to get the background you want!

Have you played around with interesting framing?  What is your favorite angle to shoot from?  How do you honor your favorite photos?  Gallery wall?  Facebook?  Scrapbook?  Leave me a comment, I'd love to hear all about it!
