I decided a long time ago that we would wait until kindergarten to start having "friend" parties. We have lots of children in our family so up until this point our parties have just had family members present (which is still something like 25 guests). So this year will be our first experience with a friend party. My son chose roller skating as the party activity. Which was great by me! Don't have to clean house! :)
I had invitations planned using a roller skate SVG and I was so excited to put them together. Then life happened. My Dad, who had a stroke on Dec 1st, came home from the hospital in early March. It was quickly evident that the level of care he required was more than one person could manage. So until we could figure out what to do I moved in with my parents to help care for my Dad. Time was running out to get invites in the mail, but since I was not at home, there was just no physical way I could get them made. I was super bummed because I wanted my son to have cute invitations like his brother had (this kind of thing really does matter to him too).
Then I thought...why not digital? I've been collecting digital elements for awhile now and have tried a few digital projects. Like our Christmas card, a desktop calendar, and even a full digital layout but I still often forget that I can create digitally when paper is not available. So one afternoon while Dad was taking a nap I pulled out my computer and made this...
I used a denim background, a simple frame, and some felt letters. Added in a pic of my son roller skating last summer and a text box for the details. I made the card 4x8 (like Christmas photo cards) and printed two on a page. Then trimmed them up and used some leftover envelopes from old Christmas cards. It worked perfectly. We had a cute invitation to send out, it was made quickly, and I still felt like it was created by me. I am totally doing this again!
Well, I'm off to celebrate. The skating center doesn't allow you to bring in fancy decorations, and there aren't any games for me to plan so my craftiness for this party is over. :) Guess I'll have to focus on taking pictures and having fun...I think I could get used to that!
Great job with your digi Invite! Way to take care of family responsibilities AND satisfy your creative juices! :)
